🔓 Meet Pliny the Prompter
I was poking around in my inbox today and I found an email from exactly 12 months ago.
It was from another AI newsletter. The top story that day?
“Google plans to upgrade assistant with AI”
Think about that for a second. Just 12 months ago, Google didn’t have AI in their assistant.
How bad Google must have slept on AI. And how far we’ve come.
Today’s Ai5:
- 🔓 Pliny the Prompter’s Best Work
- 💙 Cool New Tool to Try from Meta
- 📢 Generative AI Updates
- 🔎 AI Can Monitor Your Screen Using EMR
- 🎤 GPT4o Voice Mode Rolls Out + 64k Long Output
Prompt of the Day 🎨
Shoutouts to @OscarAI for the prompt!
Pliny the Prompter’s Best Work 🔓
You know I love a good jailbreak. And If you’ve been reading Ai5 for a while now you’d have seen a few mentions of Pliny the Prompter.
Because I find jailbreaks so entertaining, I decided to put together some of Pliny’s best efforts. 👇
YouTube video cracks ChatGPT – If you have ChatGPT on your phone, open it and tap the little microphone. Then, play the YouTube video below to jailbreak with ease! Still working as of today. 🙂
Parseltongue is a browser extension for text conversion, so far supporting formats like leetspeak, binary, base64. Watch how easy Pliny jailbreaks 4o Mini using Emojis instead of real text. 👇
Broke a security focused Llama variant from Gray Swan less than 24 hours after release. The Chief Technical Advisor was pretty cool about it though. 👇
A website was using an AI negotiation chatbot to sell mattresses. You know what happens next…
How about a meth lab simulator using Claude Artifacts? 🤣
Pliny’s even been featured on BBC’s AI Decoded. 🤣
There’s also a bunch of NSFW (nudity and gore) jailbreaks for Midjourney, Runway Gen-3, Kling, Dream Machine, and SD3 that I won’t share here.
You can find all Pliny’s text prompts on GitHub. Give Pliny a follow on X if you find this stuff as entertaining as I do!
Cool New Tool to Try from Meta 💙
Meta are keeping up the momentum after the Llama 3.1 release announcing SAM 2 earlier this week.
SAM 2 performs object segmentation in both images and videos. It can identify and track objects with high accuracy in real time.
There’s a wide range of applications for this including content creation, AR, robotics, surveillance, and automated vehicles to name a few.
In classic Meta style they’ve also open sourced a massive dataset containing 51,000 videos and over 600,000 masklets (annotated videos for training.) Pretty huge for the acceleration of this kinda tech.
You can try SAM 2 for free with your own content here.
Side note: Check out this convo between Jensen Huang and the Zuck at Siggraph 2024. Interesting stuff if you have a spare hour.
28:20: “I’m just like nah f*ck that. Get me talking about closed platforms and I get angry” – Zuck.
Quick Generative AI Updates 📰
Lots of small Gen-AI updates so far this week so I’ll cram them all in here!
Canva Acquires Leonardo: “We’re thrilled to announce our acquisition of generative AI platform Leonardo as we double down on building and scaling the world’s best visual AI.” Read the blog post from Canva here.
Midjourney 6.1 goes live: It’s now the default model. The update features a range of improvements to overall quality and detail. Images should look “generally more beautiful” across the board.
Gen-3 Img-2-vid: Runway finally ship image to video for gen-3. Possibly in response to Kling becoming widely available last week. Anyway, the results are impressive. I’d say 90% of users are generating images in Midjourney and animating them with gen-3 now.
KlingAI: release their pricing model and subscriptions. It’s way cheaper than Gen-3.
Stability release Telegram bot: Access and use all of Stable Assistant’s features now on Telegram in your own chatroom.
AI Can Monitor Your Screen Using EMR 🔎
In a paper released this week, researchers have used AI to see what’s being displayed on screen via the HDMI cable.
By intercepting and decoding electromagnetic radiation emitted from your HDMI cables, the method reconstructs text with up to 70% accuracy. Enough to any human to be able to read most of it.
The team says their AI-powered cable-tapping method is good enough that these attacks are likely already happening.
This is just another example of how AI can pose unheard of privacy and security risks:
- AI can steal your passwords by listening to your keystrokes
- Scientists can now pinpoint where someone’s eyes are looking just by listening to their ears
- AI can map human bodies through walls using Wi-Fi signals
- This example shows the collection of secret keys (like a pin number for crypto) using video footage of the laptops power LED.
And these are just the examples I know of. I’m sure there’s plenty more.
Crazy stuff!
GPT4o Voice Mode Rolls Out 🎤
OpenAI have (finally) started shipping advanced voice mode to select users. Overall, it looks really good.
Here’s an example of a user asking it to count to 100 as fast as possible:
Some interesting things to note:
- The AI breathes like a human when it talks
- It makes mistakes
- You can interrupt it
- Voice still sounds robotic on held notes
Here’s another example where the user asks it to commentate a soccer match and get as excited as possible. It’s pretty convincing!
In other OpenAI news, earlier this week they announced GPT 4o Long Output.
It’s an experimental version of GPT-4o with a maximum of 64K output tokens per request.
For reference, the current output of Claude Sonnet is just over 8k tokens. So Long Output is about 8 times longer.
The best use-case I can think of for this is writing long code snippets, which is something I’ve been limited by with Claude lately.
Anyway, I don’t have access yet (shocking).
